Oscars 2023: How to watch, start time and Irish nominees

With the Oscars just hours away and the red carpet filling up with stars from around the world a lot of people still have questions about the famous awards show.

There is a great deal of buzz about the Oscars this year, in particular, due to the whopping number of nominations handed out to Irish flicks. Between The Banshees of Inisherin, An Cailín Ciúin and An Irish Goodbye, there are a total of 14 nominations for Irish films.

From the start time and how to watch the 95th Academy Awards this year to who the Irish nominees are and what categories are featured in the show, here is everything you need to know about the 2023 Oscars before the awards show kicks off.

How to watch the Oscars in Ireland

The awards show will air in Ireland on both Sky Cinema and Sky Showcase. You can watch live coverage on your smartphone or TV on Sunday night.

As well as Sky Cinema, you can also catch the show on Now TV meaning those with a membership can watch.

However, if you don’t think you will stay up late to watch the show, you can catch a re-run of all the best bits the following day on RTÉ Two. This will be broadcast on Monday at 9:30pm.

What time does it start?

If you are planning on staying up to watch the awards live then you might want to get ready for a long night. The show kicks off at 5pm over in Los Angeles, however, this means that for Irish fans, the show starts at around midnight on Sunday.

It lasts for around three hours, so will be ending at about 3am Irish time.

How many categories are there?

In total this year there are 24 categories. The full list of the categories in the 2023 Oscars are:

What are the Irish nominations?

Ireland has a massive amount of nominations at this year's awards. In total there are 14 nominations across the 24 categories. Here are all of the Irish nominations and their categories:
