Irish fans are hoping that Brendan Gleeson will clinch the award for Best Supporting Actor at this weekend's Oscars.
The North Dublin native has had stellar acting success, with high profile roles in films such as The General and In Bruges. However, Brendan's smaller roles back in the 1990s may come as a surprise to movie lovers.
Brendan previously starred in the the hit adaptation of Roddy Doyle's The Snapper. He had a significantly smaller role in the hit film in comparison to Colm Meaney, who portrayed the loveable patriarch Des Curley. He portrayed Lester, one of Des Curley's drinking pals, in the movie.

Despite his comparably minor role, Brendan went on to become the most famous face from the comedy drama. His character helped drive the plot by fuelling rumours regarding the paternity of Sharon Curley's baby.
Brendan also starred in the low budget production The Treaty in 1991. This time the actor had a more prominent part, as he depicted Michael Collins during the time the Anglo-Irish Treaty was bitterly negotiated.
The 67-year-old was praised for his depiction of the Irish revolutionary, despite the film's relatively low profile. He later clinched a Jacob's Award in 1992 for the role.
Brendan's varied roles across the decades have culminated in his international success. He is only one of several Irish actors to receive a nomination for this year's Oscars, with the 'Banshees of Inisherin' up for nine accolades alone.
The Oscars will air at around 12am Irish time on March 13.
