Oscars 2022 odds: The favourites to win awards this weekend including Best Picture and Best Director

The Oscars season is upon us and film buffs are full of chatter about who will take home the iconic gold statuettes. Airing from 1am on Monday morning (March 28) for UK viewers, the ceremony will celebrate well-performed films and its cast from the past year.

Western drama The Power of the Dog, Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast and Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story lead the awards this year with the most nominations so we expect at least one award to go to each film.

UK viewers can watch the Oscars live from 1am on Monday morning (March 28) on Sky Showcase or Sky Cinema Oscars. It’s also available to watch live on NOW with a Sky Cinema Pass.

Which movies do you think will bring home the gold on Monday morning? We break down the top contenders for this year’s awards.

The favourites to win awards this weekend

Best Picture

Nominations: Belfast, CODA, Don’t Look Up, Drive My Car, Dune, King Richard, Licorice Pizza, Nightmare Alley, The Power of the Dog and West Side Story.

The Power of the Dog is leading this year's award ceremony with the most nominations. I think it’s safe to say it holds a strong spot in winning the award. The bookmakers say the following:

The Power of the Dog 10/11 Bet365
CODA 11/10 Ladbrokes
Belfast 14/1 Ladbrokes
West Side Story 33/1 BetVictor
King Richard 50/1 Bet365

Best Director

Nominations: Kenneth Branagh - Belfast, Jane Campion - The Power Of The Dog, Ryusuke Hamaguchi - Drive My Car, Steven Spielberg - West Side Story, Paul Thomas Anderson - Licorice Pizza.

Again, The Power of the Dog director Jane Campion could possibly be the winner of this award, however, some think Kenneth Branagh could also win this award for Belfast. The odds from Bet365 and BetVictor make it clear Campion is 1/40 to win Best Director.

Best actor

Nominations: Javier Bardem - Being the Ricardos, Benedict Cumberbatch - The Power of the Dog, Andrew Garfield - Tick, Tick … Boom!, Will Smith - King Richard, Denzel Washington - The Tragedy of Macbeth.

Will Smith has never won an Oscar but we think it might be his time for his role in King Richard, closely followed by possible winner Benedict Cumberbatch. The latest odds by Bet365 and BetVictor have given Will Smith a 1/10 chance of winning putting him on the lead.

Best actress

Nominations: Jessica Chastain - The Eyes of Tammy Faye, Olivia Colman - The Lost Daughter, Penélope Cruz - Parallel Mothers, Nicole Kidman - Being the Ricardos Kristen Stewart - Spencer.

Jessica Chastain could win for The Eyes of Tammy Faye. But it’s a close call with Kristen Stewart for her impeccable job as Princess Diana for Spencer. Bet365 have also put Chastain in the lead with 285/500, followed by Stewart's 15/2.

Best Supporting Actor

Nominations: Ciarán Hinds - Belfast, Troy Kotsur - CODA, Jesse Plemons - The Power of the Dog, J.K. Simmons - Being the Ricardos, Kodi Smit-McPhee - The Power of the Dog.

Most people seem confident that Troy Kotsur has this one in the bag for CODA, but there is a lot of interest in Kodi Smit-McPhee. Kotsur takes the lead with odds at 6/5, Smit-McPhee isn't far behind with 7/2.

Best Supporting Actress

Nominations: Jessie Buckley - The Lost Daughter, Ariana DeBose - West Side Story, Judi Dench - Belfast, Kirsten Dunst - The Power of the Dog, Aunjanue Ellis - King Richard.

West Side Story was one of the most talked-about films so we think Arianna DeBose could win this and if not Kirsten Dunst has a good chance too. DeBose has a 1/14 chance of winning according to PaddyPower, betfair and coral.
