Oscar Piastri and McLaren ready to continue momentum at F1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix

Oscar Piastri finished eighth during the last race in Melbourne.

Oscar Piastri has said he and his team have been "doing a lot of work in the simulator" after a successful outing in Melbourne four weeks ago.

Formula 1 returns for round 4 of the championship in Azerbaijan, at one of the most chaotic circuits on the calendar.

In his debut F1 season, Piastri scored his first championship points last time out in Australia, finishing eighth in his home grand prix.

The rookie faces his next test around the streets of Baku, where he has raced in Formula 2.

McLaren is hoping to build on their success in Melbourne, where Lando Norris also scored points after finishing sixth.

In the lead-up to this Sunday's race, Piastri said that he has been busily working in the simulator.

"It's a tricky circuit to get right from a car set-up perspective, given the long straight at the end of the lap, combined with the tighter sections of the track," he said.

"We've been doing a lot of work in the simulator to ensure we hit the ground running.

"I'll be hoping to build on the momentum from Australia, where I achieved my first-ever F1 points.

"We still have a lot of work to do and a long way to go, so I'll keep my head down and keep working hard."

F1 is introducing a standalone sprint race for the first time this weekend, adding a new element to the event.

In the previous two years, sprint races have been used as a form of qualifying for the grand prix on the Sunday.

F1 announced earlier this week that the six sprint races in 2023 will no longer set the grid for the Sunday grand prix.

Qualifying for Sunday's race will be held on Friday, with a separate qualifying and sprint race being held on Saturday.

Red Bull goes into this weekend leading the constructors' championship, with victories in all three races this season.
