“I wish I were an Oscar Mayer wiener, that is what I truly like to be.” If you’re one of the millions of people who grew up with this jingle or are aware of what the Wienermobile is, this news may excite you.
What Happened: JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE:JPM) has called the “metanomics” segment of digital worlds and the metaverse a trillion-dollar opportunity. The call comes as companies like McDonald’s Corp (NYSE:MCD), Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), Roblox Corporation (NYSE:RBLX) and others are investing heavily in the metaverse and filing trademarks to bring their brands and new products into the sector.
New filings from Kraft Heinz Company (NASDAQ:KHC) shared by Josh Gerben of Gerben Law on Twitter show that the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile could be headed to the metaverse.
The trademark filing from Kraft Heinz shows the company plans to offer virtual food and beverage products in the metaverse, non-fungible tokens and virtual restaurants. The trademark was filed on Oct. 12.
Among the items offered could be downloadable virtual goods, digital tokens, digital collectibles, digital art, downloadable software and non-fungible tokens, according to the filing.
There could also be virtual restaurants and food items related to the Oscar Mayer and Wienermobile brands, similar to filings made by McDonald’s, Burger King and Panera to offer virtual restaurants.
“Entertainment services, namely, providing online virtual restaurants and food and drink items for use in virtual environments; entertainment services, namely, providing an online virtual restaurant where users can earn reward points and virtual currency which may be used to purchase food and beverages in the real or virtual world,” the filing reads.
The filing also includes language to open a virtual restaurant that features “home delivery in the real and virtual world.”

Why It’s Important: Brands have increased the number of trademark filings related to the metaverse and non-fungible tokens over the last year.
Oscar Mayer introduced the Wienermobile in 1930 and it became what the company calls “a national icon.” The unique-looking vehicle regularly tours the country and is among the promotional efforts to generate brand recognition by Oscar Mayer.
A radio jingle created in 1963 proved to be incredibly popular and is known by many today.
The strong brand recognition of the Wienermobile could help Kraft Heinz get established in the metaverse and bring its other brands on board eventually.
McDonald’s and others have filed for trademarks to have virtual restaurants and also tie them into their physical locations and rewards programs.
As the jingle says, Oscar Mayer is likely hoping that, in both the physical and digital worlds, “everyone would be in love with me.”
