Mofac Animation has announced that Oscar Isaac will be portraying Jesus Christ in their upcoming animated family film, The King of Kings. Forest Whitaker has also been cast to voice the apostle Peter in the film. The star-studded voice cast includes Kenneth Branagh, Uma Thurman, and Roman Griffin Davis.
The film, directed by Seong-ho “Jay” Jang and produced by Anfernee Kim, is loosely inspired by a little-known Charles Dickens short story called The Life of Our Lord. The script, written by Jang and Rob Edwards, follows Charles and Walter Dickens as they embark on a multi-dimensional adventure exploring the life of Jesus.
The producers aim to make the biblical journey relatable and entertaining for families and children of all ages. Producer Anfernee Kim expressed excitement over the impressive cast, praising Oscar Isaac for his portrayal of Jesus and Forest Whitaker for his depiction of Peter.
The film's executive producers include Emmy Award-winning dialogue and casting director Jamie Thomason and filmmaking executive Andrew Mann. Mofac Animation is currently seeking distributors for The King of Kings.
Forest Whitaker, known for his Oscar-winning performance in The Last King of Scotland, has recently been seen in the Star Wars series Andor and the MGM+ series Godfather of Harlem. He is currently working on the legal thriller Emperor of Ocean Park for MGM+. Oscar Isaac, who voiced Spider-Man Miguel O-Hara in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, is also filming Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein adaptation for Netflix.
