Metropolitan Trustee of the Jacobite Syrian Church Joseph Mor Gregorios described as painful “the stand taken by the Orthodox faction against finding a solution to the dispute between the Malankara Church factions.”
He said while the State government and the people at large were eager to find a solution to the Church dispute, the Orthodox group appeared to be taking a stand against these moves.
‘Denied justice’
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Joseph Mor Gregorios said no solution had so far been found for the centuries-old dispute between the groups within the Malankara Church. He claimed that the Jacobite group was being denied justice and that the people at large were not accepting a situation in which majority of the Church members were being evicted from churches.
It is under these circumstances that there had been a recommendation that the State government should come forward with a legislation to settle the dispute. The Justice K. T. Thomas Commission had recommended legislation as the solution to the problem, the Metropolitan Trustee said. The Jacobite Church fully supported the recommendation, he added.
