Original Mr Blobby costume from the '90s goes up for sale on eBay

Depending on how you look at it, he's either the embodiment of how Saturday night family TV should be done, or the most annoying thing to ever appear on our screens. Nevertheless, despite that spotty pink body, awful voice and innate ability to wreck everything around him, Mr Blobby still managed to carve out a hugely successful entertainment career.

Indeed, at his peak during the '90s he was beamed into the living rooms of millions around the nation every weekend. And despite Noel's House Party - the BBC One show on which he shot to fame - having left the air at the turn of the millennium, Blobby is still ubiquitous in the minds of many who watched his small screen exploits.

And now he could be yours - sort of. Because Blobby's infamous and instantly recognisable foam rubber costume has gone up for sale on eBay, with the current top bid standing at a whopping £8,200. The costume is "not as supple as it was in 1996" - but which of us are? (eBay/blobby01)

The ad, posted by a seller in Hertfordshire, reads: "Mr Blobby - an original BBC costume from the mid 1990s - was made by the BBC's costume supplier for an overseas version of Noel's House Party. Unfortunately, before it could be delivered, the overseas show was cancelled and neither the broadcaster or the BBC's production team wanted it. So it sat in my office until a move meant it came home with me some years ago.

"This costume is made of foam rubber. Consequently, as it is now over 25 years old, there has been inevitable ageing," added the seller. "This means it is less suitable to be worn as the unit is not very supple as it was in 1996. In addition, the two arms require re-attaching to the body, one of the plastic eyes is cracked and the bow tie will need securing. There is also visible creasing and dust to the covering and some areas require a drop of glue to make good. But, overall, it's not too bad for its age."

It also states that, due to trademark/copyright reasons, the Blobby costume would only be available for 'personal home display use'. The buyer would be required to sign papers agreeing to this condition.

There's currently just under six days left on the sale, which has only come about as a result of the vendor having to move house. However, details about whether or not that address is in Crinkley Bottom were unavailable at the time of going to press.
