Organisers of Braemar Day celebrations in Blairgowrie announce return following two-year hiatus

Organisers of the Braemar Day celebrations in Blairgowrie have announced that the popular event is set to return this year following a two-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic.

And the volunteer-run Blairgowrie and Rattray Braemar Association committee is looking forward to a fantastic event with entertainment and fun for all the family.

This year’s Braemar Day, which will be the first since 2019, will take place on Saturday, September 3.

Committee member Helen Breen said: “We’re really pleased to announce that Braemar Day is going ahead this year.

“And we have lots of exciting ideas for the event in the pipeline to make it a day to remember!

“The programme will feature all the old favourites such as the opening procession and the massed pipe band parade, inflatables and face-painting, performances from local dancers, singers and bands, and the fireworks display.

“There will also be a market with stalls from local crafters and producers, as well as fundraising stalls run by a number of local community groups, clubs and organisations, and food vendors.

“If anyone would like to get involved and take part on the day, whether that’s in the opening procession, performing on the stages or by taking a stall, we would love to hear from you.”

The small team of volunteers which organises Braemar Day has welcomed three new members to the committee, Jenni Hogg-Clarke, Lesley Grant and Amanda Baker.

And the Association has also started raising funds for the much-loved event.

There will be an Easter raffle in Tesco on April 15 and April 16 which has been sponsored by TJB Landscape Services, and two car boot sales in the Castle Water car park by Tesco are planned for the coming months.

Helen said: “We would like to thank all the local businesses and members of the public for their support in the past and hope that we can count on it again this year.

“We are a charity and receive no funding from any sources other than public donations and without the generosity of local businesses and organisations this event simply wouldn’t happen.

“As well as Braemar Day itself we are organising a number of fundraising events over the coming months to raise money.

“We’re also looking for potential sponsors to get in touch.”

She added: “The last couple of years through the pandemic have been really hard for people but the community spirit in Blairgowrie and Rattray really came to the fore once again.

"The committee is looking forward to another great Braemar Day this year after two years without it in our calendars and it would be great to see the community support this traditional local event once again.”
