An Oregon woman, Susan Lane-Fournier, 61, was tragically found dead after being reported missing while hiking in the Mt. Hood area with her two dogs. Her estranged husband, Michel Fournier, 71, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection with her death.
Lane-Fournier was reported missing on Nov. 22 when she failed to show up for work. A community member spotted her vehicle near a trail prompting a multi-day search that led to the discovery of her body near a property owned by the couple in Brightwood.
Court documents revealed that Lane-Fournier had filed for divorce just two weeks before her disappearance, indicating a troubled relationship. The Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office ruled her death a homicide following an autopsy.
Additionally, two deceased dogs believed to belong to Lane-Fournier were found at the scene. Investigators are working to confirm their identities. A coworker mentioned that Lane-Fournier had expressed fear for her life in the weeks leading up to her disappearance, explaining why she always had her dogs with her.
Authorities had initially suspended the search due to weather conditions but resumed after the grim discovery. Detectives are urging anyone with information on Michel Fournier's activities before and after the incident to come forward.
