Oracle Corp. has announced plans to establish its world headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee, a city known for its prominence in the U.S. health care industry. The decision was revealed by Oracle's CEO during a discussion on health care technology at the Oracle Health Summit.
In 2021, Oracle secured $65 million in state incentives from a Tennessee panel, with intentions to create 8,500 jobs and invest over $1 billion in Nashville over the next decade. The company, currently headquartered in Austin, Texas, is set to construct a new campus spanning 1.2 million square feet in the city.
Nashville was chosen as the site for Oracle's headquarters due to its reputation as a health care hub, with over 900 companies and 550,000 employees in the industry. Major health care corporations like HCA Healthcare and Change Healthcare are already based in the city.
Oracle's CEO emphasized that Nashville's appeal extends beyond its health care sector, citing the city's quality of life, family-friendly environment, vibrant culture, and community engagement as key factors in the decision. The company's employee surveys indicated that Nashville met all the criteria for a desirable location.
Oracle's investment in Nashville includes the purchase of 60 acres in downtown Nashville for $254 million, along with a $175 million commitment towards public infrastructure development. Plans for the riverfront campus feature amenities such as a community clinic, a concert venue, a hotel, and a restaurant.
Nashville Mayor Freddie O'Connell expressed enthusiasm for Oracle's presence in the city, highlighting the company's efforts to enhance activity at their River North campus. O'Connell emphasized Nashville's appeal as a well-rounded city that offers a conducive environment for both residents and businesses.
