Do you have gorgeous hands, are you conversant in Greek and Latin, and do you like the finest food and wine?
If the above applies to you then the perfect job has just appeared on the market. Posh, soon-to-be-open Mayfair restaurant Bacchanalia is looking to recruit a grape feeder.
The brainchild of billionaire restaurant tycoon Richard Caring, Bacchanalia – named after a lavish Roman festival – exudes luxury and decadence. And they want someone who will match the high standards that the eatery is looking for, reports the Mirror.
The grape-feeding job explains that prospective employees will need “gorgeous hands”, as well as a “basic grasp of Greek and Latin” in order to fit in with Bacchanalia’s grand aesthetic. And perks of the role include “regular manicures” and the “finest food and wine”.
The Berkeley Square opening of the restaurant is set to transform a former Porsche showroom into a completely new space, as Bacchanalia’s website reads: “This is not merely a restaurant, it is a breath-taking feast for the senses, a gathering place to feel moved, immersed in another world. It’s imagination on a grand and glorious scale”.
Owner Caring, 74, has called in a famous friend to help him deliver his vision, as artist Damien Hirst is set to make a quartet of huge artworks for Bacchanalia, including one of “winged lovers embracing on a unicorn”. Hirst has also worked on other dining venues for Carin, including Sexy Fish and The Brasserie of Light.
As well as Hirst’s, art there'll also be ancient statues and Sistine Chapel-style frescoes on the ceiling along with 2,000 year old antiques. Designer Martin Brudnizki, who also worked on many Caprice Holdings restaurants, is in charge of the design.
After the unusual job advert was posted on social media by owner Caprice Holdings Restaurants, people joked about applying and wondered whether it was real or not.
One person wrote on Twitter: “I have lovely hands and an A-Level in Latin, as well as a GCSE in Ancient Greek. Somehow I don’t think I am what he’s looking for.”
Many others questioned whether the job ad was satire, as one said: “My first thought was to assume this was weird satire I didn’t quite get and my second, on realising it may be real, was that surely the actual Romans had grape feeders in London and then I didn’t really know where I was going with that”.
The advert seems to have appeared as a full-page spread in the Sunday Times, so it looks as though Caring is serious about finding the perfect candidate. The restaurant chain claims that the position will be “London’s first grape feeder”.
