‘Optimism’ Surrounding Nick Bosa’s Contract Amid 49ers Holdout, per Report

49ers star defensive end Nick Bosa has yet to sign an extension as the regular season draws closer and closer. The reigning defensive player of the year is currently holding out and has been away from the team during training camp, but ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler is under the impression that will all be coming to an end soon.

“A little bit more optimism here with his contract with the 49ers because teams I’ve talked to expect him to put up a massive number, somewhere in that $30M+ per year,” Fowler said Sunday while on SportsCenter, according to Bleacher Report. “He’s considered the best pass rusher in the NFL. The 49ers have prioritized that; they know that. They want to get this done. It’s just a deal of this magnitude with a lot of nuances about it, the structure the amount of years, a lot to sort out. So, still some time here.”

This would fall in line with San Francisco general manager John Lynch telling reporters on Saturday that there’s optimism that Bosa will be signed by Week 1 when the team hits the road to play the Steelers on Sept. 10.

Bosa, 25, was named defensive player of the year in 2022 after tallying an NFL-leading 18.5 sacks.
