'Optimism' claim made as fresh Nottingham Forest transfer link emerges

Nottingham Forest are said to be keen on Atalanta defender Hans Hateboer as they continue their summer shopping spree.

Steve Cooper’s side have made 16 signings so far this summer, but are not finished in the transfer market just yet. Further business is expected at the City Ground before the window closes on September 1, including adding to the Reds’ wing-back options.

Hateboer is reported to be on Forest’s radar as they look to provide competition for Neco Williams on the right flank, with fellow new arrival Giulian Biancone primarily viewed as an option at centre-back. The Athletic say the Dutchman is “among a shortlist of targets”, while Tutto Atalanta claim “there is optimism between the parties” that a deal could go through.

Forest have already poached midfielder Remo Freuler from Atalanta. The 30-year-old has yet to make his debut in the Garibaldi, but was among the substitutes in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Everton.

Hateboer has been with the Italian outfit since 2017, having joined from Dutch side Groningen. He has made more than 150 league appearances for the club and has also been capped by his country.

Morgan Gibbs-White became the latest new addition through the door when he linked up with Cooper’s men last Friday. But with an overhaul of the dressing room a necessity this summer, the Reds boss is still putting the finishing touches to his squad.

“I don’t think we’ll be finished with ins and outs. There’s still a bit to go,” Cooper said after the stalemate at Goodison Park.

The Welshman has previously said: “We want to make sure we have the right challenge and the right depth for every position. I don’t want any player thinking they are definitely going to play in the next game; I want them to feel that they’ve got to train really well to get a place in the team.

.“A lot of the stuff that we’ve done is catch-up; catch-up to certainly the other two teams who have come up with us. If we maybe need to do some more that can help us improve again, then hopefully we’ll be able to do it. It will be ins and outs now.”
