Oprah Winfrey has said she hopes Harry and Meghan will be able to reunite with the other members of the royal family in the wake of the Queen’s death.

The chat show host landed a bombshell interview with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex after they stepped down as working royals in 2020, in which the couple spoke candidly and critically about royal life.

The decision to dramatically leave the UK and start a new life in California led to reports of a rift between the royal family and Harry and Meghan.

In an interview this week, Ms Winfrey said she hoped, in the wake of the Queen’s death, family disagreements could be put aside.

Speaking in an interview with Extra, an entertainment news site, she said: “I think in all families, you know, my father passed recently, this summer, and when all families come together for a common ceremony, the ritual of, you know, burying your dead, there's an opportunity for peacemaking.

“And hopefully, there will be that.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex appeared alongside Prince William and Princess Kate to inspect tributes to her Majesty at Windsor at the weekend.

In a gesture of unity, the two couples, dressed in black, greeted members of the public and inspected flowers left at the Long Walk by wellwishers.

It is believed to be the first time they had been seen in public together since the National Service of Thanksgiving during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June.

According to reports, an invitation was extended by the Prince of Wales for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to accompany him and the Princess of Wales.

He reportedly discussed it first with King Charles who gave his backing as it was an important show of unity.

In his first address to the nation, King Charles also extended an olive branch, telling the country of his “love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives overseas”.
