Oprah Winfrey and Niecy Nash-Betts are set to be honored at the upcoming GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles on March 14. Winfrey will be receiving the prestigious Vanguard Award for her unwavering support and advocacy for the LGBTQ community, while Nash-Betts will be presented with the Stephen F. Kozak Award for her efforts in raising visibility for LGBTQ individuals and issues.
GLAAD president and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis praised Winfrey for her impactful contributions, stating that Winfrey's influence as an ally, particularly to transgender individuals, has been instrumental in promoting acceptance and understanding. Nash-Betts, who co-hosted the GLAAD Media Awards in 2021, has been recognized for redefining the role of Black queer women in the entertainment industry alongside her wife Jessica.
The event will feature a star-studded guest list, including celebrities such as Matt Bomer, Victoria Monet, Jonathan Bailey, Jason Sudeikis, Alexandra Shipp, and members of the cast from popular shows like 'Ted Lasso' and 'RuPaul's Drag Race.' The gala will be hosted by Wayne Brady and will include a special performance by David Archuleta at the official after-party.
In addition to the awards ceremony, the evening will also celebrate nominees in various categories, including outstanding online journalism and magazine overall coverage. Notable nominees include projects such as 'All of Us Strangers,' 'And Just Like That…,' 'Deadloch,' 'Ted Lasso,' and 'Yellowjackets.'
The 35th GLAAD Media Awards will be held at the Beverly Hilton and will be produced in partnership with STAMP Event Co. The New York City edition of the GLAAD Media Awards is scheduled for May 11, providing a platform to continue honoring and recognizing individuals and media outlets that have made significant contributions to LGBTQ representation and advocacy.
