The crypto community is rallying behind the Maui community, with a relief fund endorsed by A-list celebrities Oprah Winfrey and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson now accepting cryptocurrency donations.

In early August 2023, Maui witnessed devastating wildfires that consumed over 2,500 acres, leading to significant property and personal losses.

To aid the victims, Oprah and Johnson initiated the People’s Fund of Maui.

Interestingly, cryptocurrency donations for various causes will be a highlight at Zenger News’s Future of Digital Assets conference, emphasizing the growing importance and acceptance of digital assets in mainstream philanthropy.

Johnson, who previously worked with the nonprofit Malama Kauai in 2018 to help repair flood damage, assured that every cent of the donations would be directed to the victims.

“Every adult resident who lives in the affected area and was displaced by the wildfires in Lahaina and Kula is eligible to receive $1200 per month to help them through this period of recovery,” said the former WWE (NYSE: WWE) star.

The fund is open to donations in various fiat currencies and cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC), Ether (CRYPTO: ETH), and Dogecoin (CRYPTO: DOGE).

Oprah elaborated on the decision to give the donations directly to the survivors, allowing them autonomy in their recovery process.

“People being able to have their own agency, being able to make decisions for themselves — about what they need and what their family needs — that is our goal,” she said.

We’re honored to announce the People’s Fund of Maui, a fund putting money directly in the pockets of those who were affected by the recent wildfires.

All Hands and Hearts, a disaster relief organization, is also pooling both cryptocurrency and fiat donations to support the Maui residents affected by the fires.

Olga Ruggiero, from All Hands and Hearts, commented on the significance of such donations, saying, “Cryptocurrency donations as any other type of donations are helping to provide essential support after the devastating wildfires. The crypto industry continues to band together with communities around the world in need.”

We are participating in @TheGivingBlock’s Maui Emergency Response Fund to support survivors of the wildfires in Hawaii.
