Oprah Winfrey has revealed she was surprised when her interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was labelled a "bombshell".
During a chat with Gayle King on CBS, 68-year-old Oprah was quizzed about the unforgettable chat she had with the couple in 2021.
"I was as surprised by the bombshell as everybody else," she admitted to Gayle.
"I was doing an interview to offer them a platform to tell their story about why they left, and that was my number one intention was just clarity on 'why did you leave?'"
Oprah continued: "And so some of the things that were revealed in that interview came as a surprise to me and those surprises are now referred to as 'bombshell'.
"But I didn't set out to do a 'bombshell' interview. I set out to do an interview, have a conversation that would allow them to tell their story."
Gayle then said: "And now people say, 'reconciliation, reconciliation, we hope the brothers reconcile', what do you say?"
Oprah quickly fired back: "I do not get into people's family matters. Everybody who has experienced some challenges in their families with in-laws or brothers or sisters knows how difficult some of those situations can be and I'm sure that you know for the royal family, it's no different."
She then added matter-of-factly: "And nobody comes talks to me about their family business so I try and stay out of people's family business!"
As CBS Mornings cut back to studio where Gayle was presenting live, she admitted to her co-hosts: "And after that Oprah goes, 'and Gayle that is the end of that interview!'" before laughing.
During the 2021 tell-all interview with Oprah, Harry and Meghan spoke about their split from the Royal Family.
They also revealed there had been "concerns" over the colour of their son Archie's skin and said Prince Charles, now King, had stopped taking Harry's phone calls.
Meghan said she had felt suicidal, but was not allowed to get help, and the pair also revealed they secretly got married before their royal wedding, and announced they were expecting their daughter in the summer of 2021.
In July of this year, it was reported that palace aides were running scared of the Sussexes causing “another world of pain” and playing the victim in a second bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview.
