Mounting a sharp attack on the newly coined Indian National Developmental, Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday alleged that a section of the Opposition resorted to “negative politics” and said the country now desired corruption, dynasty and appeasement to “quit” India.
Hitting back, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge accused the Prime Minister of resorting to “negative politics of divide” in the past 10 years.
“Unfortunately in our country, there is a part of the Opposition who even today won’t do anything themselves and won’t allow others to do anything either. They are stuck with this attitude,” Mr. Modi said, while virtually launching a redevelopment project of 508 railway stations.
Without naming the INDIA group directly, the Prime Minister said this bloc opposed the new Parliament building, redevelopment of the central vista around Kartavyapath, the new designated Rajpath, and didn’t shy away from even criticising the construction of the war memorial near the India Gate or the State of Unity in the memory of Sardar Patel in Gujarat.
“Inspired by the Quit India Movement, the entire country is now roaring Quit India for every evil, saying ‘corruption, quit India’, ‘dynasty, quit India’, ‘appeasement, quit India’,” Mr. Modi said.
He also mentioned the upcoming Partition Horror Remembrance Day and acknowledged the contribution of the people who gathered themselves after the shock and were contributing to the development of the country.
Responding to Mr. Modi, Mr. Kharge wrote on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), “For the last 10 years, you have only done negative politics of breaking. Bitter words are now coming out of your voice for INDIA as well”
Manipur violence
The Congress chief said that the Prime Minister was unable to control the violence in Manipur for the past three months and there was a civil war-like situation now, leaving 150 people dead.
Referring to the recent communal flare up in Haryana (Nuh), the Congress chief alleged that the BJP government and the Sangh Parivar ensured riots in areas that had not seen the problem.
He said the Modi government had only ensured unemployment, inflation, economic inequality, poverty, women insecurity, oppression of Dalits.
“There is disappointment in the public. Instead of solving the problems, the Prime Minister finds a new inauguration programme for himself every day and does politics even in government functions and attacks the Opposition,” he said.
Mr. Kharge alleged that the BJP’s ideological forefathers supported the British, opposed Quit India and had a suspicious role in the conspiracy to assassinate Mahatma Gandhi.
“The Quit India which was not remembered for 75 years, is being remembered now. This is our victory,” he said, using the tagline #Bharat will unite, INDIA will win.
