Oppo’s new foldable phone costs £110 less than its Samsung rival

Foldable phones have long been the domain of Samsung and, to a lesser degree, Motorola. But, now there’s a new contender on the scene in the guise of Oppo’s Find N2 Flip.

The new handset is available to pre-order now for £849 with 256GB of storage, ahead of its release on March 2. Though it’s hardly a steal, the price is still £110 less than you’d pay for its lookalike, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4.

Oppo is known for undercutting its Korean rival. Last year’s Find X5 Pro flagship was priced at £1,049, making it £100 cheaper than the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

The new device is Oppo’s first foldable to be released outside of China. With its clamshell design, the Find N2 Flip looks like a direct competitor to the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and the £949 Motorola Razr 2022, both of which arrived last year.

The Find N2 Flip differs from the competition through its sizeable 3.26-inch external display, on which you can check the weather, view notifications and take photos. Oppo claims it’s the largest cover screen on any flip phone — by comparison, the Samsung Flip 4 has a 1.9-inch external display.

Oppo also says the Find N2 Flip can be folded up to 400,000 times, and should therefore last for 10 years if you fold and unfold it 100 times a day. The internal display measures 6.8 inches and has a full HD resolution with an ultra-smooth refresh rate of 120Hz.

Inside the phone is a MediaTek Dimensity 9000 Plus chip, which is also used by other brands including China’s Xiaomi and Taiwan’s Asus.

The camera array features a 50-megapixel main camera with an eight-megapixel ultrawide. There’s also a 32-megapixel selfie snapper on the front. Oppo claims that the 4,300mAh battery will keep the phone running all day.

The Find N2 Flip is already available in China, alongside Oppo’s other second-gen foldable — the larger Find N2.

Oppo dived into foldables with the release of the original Find N in late 2021, the company’s answer to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4.
