OPPO takes center stage at the prestigious Paris Photo event this week, as an associate partner of the largest international art fair.
As the only smartphone brand participating in the event, OPPO is embracing the opportunity to share cultural diversity with the world, principally through its exhibition of breathtaking photographic works from the OPPO imagine IF Photography Awards 2023.
This spectacular showcase of winning artwork represents a retrospective of the year’s imagine IF Photography Project – a global initiative that challenged users around the world to push beyond the boundaries of smartphone shooting, and explore the artistic possibilities and unique experiential nature of mobile photography.
The OPPO imagine IF Photography Awards 2023 garnered over 700,000 entries from over 50 countries and regions. The entries were judged by award-winning and contemporary photography artists, including Pulitzer Prize winner Liu Xiangcheng, Hasselblad Master Tina Signesdottir Hult and Wang Jianjun, Hasselblad Ambassador Yin Chao.
Prestigious photography
The theme of this year’s imagine IF was “Beyond the Image, Beyond Imagination". In total, 15 photographers received awards – including Ahei Huan, from Daliang Mountains, earning the top honor of OPPO imagine IF Master of the Year (Gold Award).
Ahei Huan spent six years capturing his photo series, Daughters of the Moon, named after a legend of the Yi nation about a girl whose miraculous weaving ability leads to her becoming the moon’s daughter.
Not only did his work, recording the daily lives of Yi people to share their culture and aesthetics, reward him with the title of OPPO Photographer of the Year, he was also invited to participate in the Hasselblad Image Training Camp. And, perhaps the greatest honor of all, was the recognition from a distinguished international panel of peers.
“What first catches my eye about this work is its professionalism,” remarked Magnum photographer and contemporary photographic artist, Alec Soth. “These images are crafted with precision and great sensitivity.”
The photographs were captured using the flagship OPPO Find X6 Pro. Indeed, more than 80% of the award-winning images were taken using the device, which has garnered a reputation among photographers for its ability to render light and shadow – something that the company has worked diligently to develop.
OPPO is committed to providing users with a mobile imaging experience beyond imagination. It is noteworthy that at Paris Photo, the company with Hasselblad announced to co-develop the next generation of HyperTone Camera Systems. Combining classic imaging aesthetics with mobile technology, the system is expected to help set new industry standards.
Exhibition of excellence
Beyond the award-winning artworks in the imagine IF Photography Awards 2023, OPPO is showcasing even more stunning imagery at Paris Photo. Of particular interest is the presentation of ten samples, captured by photographic masters and institutions.
Among them is Tina Signesdottir Hult’s thought-provoking portraiture; Yin Chao’s remarkable work breathing life into static subjects; and Wang Jianjun’s geological exploration of the Ebo Liang landform in Qinghai province.
In addition to the work from independent photography professionals, OPPO is also presenting eight chapters at the event: The Distant View, Portrait, Night Scenery, Colors, Landscape, The Taste of Memories, Light & Shadow, and Chapters of a Life. And, in a special collaboration with Chinese National Geography, it will also reveal the "Marvellous Landscapes" monthly artwork collection campaign.
