Oppenheimer romp scenes leave fans worried director Nolan ‘doesn’t know what sex is’

Oppenheimer is one of this year's most hotly anticipated films, with Cillian Murphy set to wow in one of his darkest roles yet.

But movie goers are already concerned before the film has even been released as director Christopher Nolan has directed one of his rare sex scenes.

The biopic film highlights J. Robert Oppenheimer, the theoretical physicist who helped develop the first nuclear weapons in WWII. The film also stars Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr and Florence Pugh as Cillian's love interest.

Alongside some dark and troubling scenes that director Nolan is known for, the film also features "prolonged full nudity" between lead actors Cilian Murphy and his co-star Florence Pugh in what Nolan has described as a love story “as strong as [he’s] ever done”.

With raunchy sex scenes and romantic love affairs not Nolan's usual style of film, it's left some film fans worried about what Oppenheimer's steamy love story might look like.

One prospective movie goer wrote on Twitter: "I’m worried Christopher Nolan didn’t know what sex is and he had the actors stand naked pressing their thumbs to each others foreheads."

Another tweeted: "Barbie: viral multi-million dollar marketing. Oppenheimer: Cillian Murphy looking miserable, as well as sex."

"Oppenheimer marketing just got interesting," said a third.

A fourth worried: "[Not gonna lie], I feel like the stronger Nolan attempts to write love, romance, or much of any emotion, he just DOES NOT know how to…"

Some fans have joked it's just been an excuse to see Cillian Murphy getting intimate, as one person joked: "Even Nolan just wanted to see Cillian naked."

Another added: "Spending a lot of money to see Cillian Murphy’s juicer in an estimated 18k resolution at an IMAX 70mm screening."

Oppenheimer is scheduled for release in the United Kingdom and United States on July 21, 2023, by Universal Pictures. According to data from the world’s largest cinema chain AMC, 20,000 cinema-goers have already booked to see both Oppenheimer and Barbie on the same day.

Even lead actor Cillian Murphy agrees with movie goers odd plans of pairing the two films together, as he told Spanish publication La Vanguardia: "I love Margot Robbie, I love Ryan Gosling, I want to see them now.

"I don't know what the debate is about, although it's not that I have an overwhelming opinion about it either.

"My advice would be for people to go see both, on the same day. If they are good films, then that’s cinema’s gain."
