The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has officially informed agencies that the recent 'What did you do last week' email sent out is voluntary. This notification was sent out following a meeting held among the Chief Human Capital Officers Council, which includes top Human Resources officers from various departments.
During the meeting, OPM clarified that employees are not required to respond to the email and that failure to do so will not result in resignation. The email emphasized that any responses provided by employees should not contain confidential, sensitive, or classified information.
This guidance from OPM contradicts previous statements made by Elon Musk, who had indicated that failure to respond to the email would be considered a resignation.
It is important for employees to understand that they have the option to choose whether or not to respond to the email, and that their decision will not impact their employment status. OPM's clarification aims to alleviate any concerns or confusion that may have arisen following the initial email communication.
