OPINION - The Leader podcast | London’s rental crisis: living in a hotel

Government data shows that in the last quarter of 2022 more than 13,000 households approached London councils for help with housing.

There are now record numbers of families in temporary hotel accommodation, with more than 75,000 homeless children in London, that’s enough to fill the Royal Albert Hall more than 14 times over.

Just six months ago, 28-year-old mum Nicole Bent and her three year old daughter were living in rented accommodation, but are now among those families living out of a hotel room.

Jon Weeks met with Nicole at her temporary accommodation in a Travelodge in North London.

She told The Leader podcast about the circumstances that led to her living there, the struggles of raising a 3-year-old in a hotel room, and what she believes needs to change to help people into private accommodation.
