A passenger on a dive in OceanGate’s doomed Titan has told how the submersible piloted by late CEO Stockton Rush became stuck near the Atlantic seabed two hours into the descent.
Footage has emerged of videographer Jaden Pan describing to the BBC’s Travel Show how power died on the terrifying 2021 expedition to Titanic’s wreck, which was two years before the craft’s implosion claimed five lives last month.
Rush reportedly pushed ahead with dives in the extreme pressure depths, despite early warnings that Titan’s design was not fit for the task.
According to data from the US National Centers for Environmental Prediction, global temperatures this week surpassed the August 2016 record of 16.9C, as climate change-fuelled heatwaves continued around the world.
In China, temperatures were above 35C and north Africa experienced nearly half the heat of boiling water at 50C, while Antarctica broke its July record with 8.7C.
