OPINION - Heroines’ welcome urged for Lionesses in London: The Leader podcast

As the Lionesses prepare to come home from their dramatic tournament at the World Cup in Australia, it’s thought preparations are underway for a celebration of their achievements.

It doesn’t look like we’re going to get that extra bank holiday, but there are signs that the government is planning something to celebrate.

Before the final kicked off, Secretary of State for Sport Lucy Frazer said the country would ‘definitely’ be celebrating the Lionesses ‘whether they win or not’, but didn’t give any specific details.

The Evening Standard’s Arts Correspondent Robert Dex tells The Leader podcast why the celebration should be about much more than just England’s performances throughout the World Cup, and describes what an appropriate celebration would look like.
