London is basking in an unexpected burst of sunshine — so I’ve had my feet in a paddling pool and my mind on the best late summer jaunts in the city this year.
There’s the Greenwich & Docklands Festival, with circus performances, outdoor theatre and dance running until the end of this week. It’s free and you can head over on the air-conditioned Elizabeth line — bliss.
If the urge takes you while you’re down there, you can even float around Canary Wharf in your own BBQ boat from Skuna. And if that whets your appetite (blame the sun for the pun), the Totally Thames festival is on all month. It’s a celebration of our legendary river past and present including boat rides, photography tours and art installations.
Long summer evenings call for long walks. I’m hoping to join one of the London Design Festival’s architecture-themed walking tours to al fresco art displays. They’re in design districts all over town from September 16 to 24.
To coincide with London Fashion Week, the V&A launches its first UK exhibition dedicated to iconic designer Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel (opens September 16).
If you’re missing the cinematic highs of Barbenheimer, head over to ExCel London for Disney’s biggest ever exhibition to celebrate their centenary. Disney100: The Exhibition is 10 galleries full of Disney treasures, stories, historical artefacts, original costumes and unique interactive installations.
It’s been a phenomenal summer for London so far. The capital is truly back. We kicked off with the Coronation then classic moments like Wimbledon and Pride.
And the best bit is that it’s not over yet. Whether you’re a Londoner enjoying a staycation or a visitor savouring the city’s delights, make the most of these bonus summer days.
There’s something for everyone — and if you’re undecided, head to Visitlondon.com for inspiration.
