The opening date for a brand new teaching pool at a Nottinghamshire leisure centre has been confirmed as part of a £5.5 million transformation of the facility. Work at the Hucknall Leisure Centre over the past few years has included an upgrade of its gym, a brand new café and reception area and a new cycling studio.
The project has been part of Ashfield District Council's broader £22.5 million transformation of its leisure facilities across the area, which has also included the opening of a new centre in Kirkby. At Hucknall, a new teaching pool has now been completed to complete the investment in the centre.
The council has announced the new pool, at the leisure centre in Linby Road, will officially open on Saturday (June 24), with an opening pool party also being hosted on July 15. The party will include free bookable swimming sessions, free face painting and balloon modelling.

Councillor Chris Huskinson, the executive lead for leisure, health and wellbeing at Ashfield District Council, said: "We are so proud to have completed this second swimming pool at Hucknall Leisure Centre. The teaching pool will allow generations of children to learn a valuable life skill.
“The council is committed to providing state-of-the-art, quality leisure facilities and this new pool is the latest in the long line of excellent sports and exercise venues." The new 15m teaching pool has a maximum depth of 900mm and features accessible entry. Water in the pool will be warmer than the main pool, with a roof featuring photovoltaic panels having been installed to heat it sustainably.
Lorenzo Clark, contract manager at Everyone Active, which runs the centre, said: "We are incredibly excited at the prospect of opening the learner pool to the local community. The lessons that take place will enable children and adults to have fun and be active, while teaching a skill which will prove invaluable throughout their lives."
