Edinburgh Leisure has finally announced an opening date for the long-awaited Meadowbank Sports Centre.
The centre closed in 2017 for a multi-million pound redevelopment of facilities, with a series of delays postponing its planned opening.
Edinburgh Leisure has nowconfirmed the new opening date for the centre - July 19.

With just four weeks to go until the sports centre is re-opened after a prolonged closure, the countdown for city centre locals has begun.
The Meadowbank Sports Centre has been a feature of the capital for almost 50 years and has hosted two separate Commonwealth Games in 1970 and 1986.
However, in 2017 it was closed for a massive redevelopment and locals have been feeling its absence since.
The new redevelopment will offer a wealth of new facilities to Edinburgh once it does open, including a martial arts studio, boxing gym, café and Games Halls.
The new Meadowbank has a wide range of different facilities. Including an outdoor athletics track with nearly 500-seat stand, 3G pitches with another nearly 500-seat stand, indoor gym, fitness studio, squash courts, cycle studio and two multi-sport games halls for local sports clubs.
As well as sports facilities, the new centre will also offer a number of other support services. Including a café and even meeting rooms and offices.
It’s no wonder, then, that Edinburgh locals have been looking forward to the new facility opening for so long.
On their website, Edinburgh Leisure wrote: “Meadowbank has always been at the heart of the local community and its commitment to the health and well-being of the city has never changed.
We look forward to reopening this iconic sporting venue and the finishing line of this multi-million-pound redevelopment is almost in sight.”
