The premier of Canada's most populous province expressed grave concerns over President-elect Donald Trump's proposed 25% tariffs on all Canadian products, labeling it a potential disaster that would negatively impact U.S. stock markets. The premier highlighted the deep integration of the U.S. and Canadian economies, particularly in the auto sector, where parts cross the border multiple times before assembly, emphasizing the impracticality of separating supply chains.

Additionally, the premier criticized Trump's plan for mass deportations, stating readiness to deploy police officers to the border if necessary. He emphasized the need for collaboration between local, provincial, and federal authorities to tighten border security.

In response to the premier's comments, a spokesperson for the Trump-Vance transition defended the proposed tariffs as a measure to protect American workers from unfair foreign practices.

Concerns were also raised about Trump's mass deportation plan, with the premier expressing worries and outlining plans to bolster border security with police reinforcements.

Canada's federal government unveiled a billion-dollar border plan aimed at averting tariffs, including the creation of an aerial intelligence task force for border surveillance and proposing a joint strike force with the U.S. to combat cross-border organized crime.

The premier reiterated the importance of U.S.-Canada trade and emphasized the need for dialogue with the U.S. administration to prevent escalating tensions. He highlighted the significance of energy exports to the U.S. and the potential impact of tariffs on critical minerals and metals supply.

Notably, Canada is a major supplier of crude oil, electricity, steel, aluminum, and uranium to the U.S., with significant cross-border trade volumes. The premier underscored the need for mutual understanding and cooperation between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico to address border security challenges effectively.

While acknowledging differences in migrant flows and drug seizures at the Canadian and Mexican borders, the premier stressed the importance of bilateral trade agreements and collaborative efforts to address shared concerns.

Overall, the premier's statements reflect a proactive approach to safeguarding Canada's economic interests and maintaining strong diplomatic relations with the U.S. amidst evolving trade and security challenges.
