Only sharp drivers can spot all nine motoring offences in this tricky brain teaser

Optical illusions and brain teasers alike are cleverly designed to give people a challenging task - all while determining their personality traits.

A new tricky brain teaser differentiates the sharpest of drivers among us if they can spot all nine motoring offences within the busy image.

The puzzle, which was created by business comparison site iCompario, challenges people to find all nine driving mistakes in 43 seconds to determine their efficiency as a driver.

However, the brain teaser is allegedly so tricky that two in five people admit defeat and give up before spotting all offences.

The puzzle was created to help raise awareness of potential hazards on UK roads.

iCompario's brain teaser raises awareness of how difficult some hazards can be to spot, let alone predict.

Navigating the busy UK roads that are often shared by cars, cyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians requires plenty of care and attention.

The puzzle is said to be driving those who undertake the challenge of spotting all nine offences crazy with 40% of people giving up.

Anything that can take your attention away from the road, not following the Highway Code, or failing to comply with the road traffic act can be considered a distraction from safe driving and therefore against the law.

Did you spot all the driving offences? Not to worry, the answers to the puzzle can be found below.

Did you manage to spot all nine of the offences? (iCompario)

Checking your mobile phone

Being caught holding a mobile phone, tablet or Sat Nav can land you with six penalty points and a £200 fine or even cost you your license. In 2021, 1% of UK drivers were seen using a hand-held mobile phone whilst driving, therefore 410,000 drivers are likely to be guilty of this offence per year.

Having a dirty number plate

Number plates must be clear and easy to read. A dirty number plate can hide the visibility of your registration, resulting in a fine of up to £1,000.

Splashing a pedestrian with a puddle

Under section three of the Road Traffic Act 1988, splashing people with a puddle is considered careless behaviour on the road. It's worthy of three penalty points and a £100 fixed penalty notice, but in more serious cases fines can reach £5,000.

Running a red light

Going through traffic lights when they visibly show red is illegal – even if it was an accident. The penalty you face for running a red light is a £100 fine and three points on your license.

Overtaking when you shouldn't

Overtaking when you shouldn't is considered to be 'careless driving', which can leave you with £100 fine and three points on your license. In some cases, overtaking dangerously can be classed as 'dangerous driving' and lead to more serious punishments.

Swearing at other drivers

Swearing at other road users is the kind of aggressive behaviour that could be construed as 'disorderly behaviour' under the Crime and Disorder Act 1998. Swearing at other motorists could land you with a £1,000 fine if you are handed the maximum penalty.

Driving with a flat tyre

The Highway Code states that tyres must be correctly inflated as per the vehicle handbook or data. If you are caught driving with a flat tyre, it can lead to a £100 fine and three penalty points.

Throwing food out the window

Throwing anything out the window is seen as littering, even if it is biodegradable, and can result in a fine of up to £150 for littering.
