Acting legend Sir David Jason is to return to TV, but not in a sitcom like his previous starring roles in Only Fools and Horses and Open All Hours.
Instead the 83-year-old actor is set to take up a presenting role as he hosts a BBC series titled Touring Toolshed with his new best mate Jay Blades from BBC's The Repair Shop.
The pals will host the series on BBC2 as it focuses on the presenting duo as they visit guests in locations across the UK via their touring toolshed hut to discuss their hobbies and passion projects. The series will also see the unlikely duo offer advice and expertise on how to improve and build on their current projects.
Touring Toolshed is produced and created by Jay's own production company, and gives the public the opportunity to show off their homemade creations, whether fully finished or a working progress.
The series will air on BBC2 next year and is set to run with 15 episodes celebrating "amateur tinkerers and crafters bursting with inspiration from all aspects of the crafting world".
A TV source told The Sun: "Jay can’t believe he’s making a show with his real-life hero."
Discussing his return to TV, Sir David added: "It’s great to be back on the nation’s TV screens doing something totally different.
"I’ve played a lot of roles in my time but, to be myself, show off my creative passion and help the wonderful people we meet along the way resolve their mechanical masterpiece issues is very rewarding.
"I’ve really enjoyed being on the road with Jay where we have built up a great friendship and had a lot of fun, which I hope the viewers will enjoy watching when it airs."
Sir David Jason is best known for his roles in sitcoms including Del Boy Trotter in Only Fools and Horses and as shopboy Granville in Open All Hours.
