As a Journalist (and yes I can see you’ve raised an eyebrow to that, I’m using the term loosely here!), I am sent all manner of strange things, from books, t-shirts, mugs mouse mats, usually to promote various things but something arrived at my office from OnePlus recently that had me stumped.
Chinese tech giant OnePlus has been knocking it out of the park recently with some incredible devices like the OnePlus 10 Pro, The Nord 2T and the Nord Plus buds to name just a few.
However, they sent me a mysterious package containing two boxes of tea, one of green tea and one black tea and a perplexing message saying.
“It’s Tea season at OnePlus, and Green and Black are our favourites. Find out what’s brewing soon. Love All your friends at OnePlus.“
What could it mean?
Have the clever people at OnePlus figured out that I survive on a steady but constant stream of caffeine to fuel my existence and “journalism” or could there be another meaning?
Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, I drank the tea and the gears in my brain started spinning and after my 12th or 14th cup of tea, I remembered that OnePlus has a series of "T" phones that began with the OnePlus 3T back in 2016 and the last of this series was the 8T released back in 2020, so it's well overdue for an update.
These T models of OnePlus handsets are usually incremental upgrades on previous mainline devices, and with the 10 Pro being released as recently as April 2022, I'm curious to see what a T version of the 10 could be packing to set it apart.
The 8T was an affordable flagship range smartphone with some high-end features and a solid processor that would even give some phones in 2022 a run for their money.
With its fast Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor, 5G, 48 MP Quad Camera, 120 Hz Fluid Display, and 4500mAh Battery as well as 65w charging it’s still a very respectable phone, and I would be interested to see what OnePlus could offer to top this and the phenomenal OnePlus 10 Pro.
There are also rumours of an upcoming 10T and most speculation points to it using the cutting-edge Snapdragon 8.1 processor which was used in the OnePlus 10 Pro as well as a 120Hz display like its predecessor, there will no doubt be other similar components that appear in the 10 or 10 Pro.
However, specs have not been confirmed and no official release date has yet to be announced for the new device but OnePlus and Android fans will be excited to see what OnePlus will be announcing.
There is, of course, the Nord 2T that came out this year, could this teaser be a cheeky nod to a new version of the Mid-tier heavyweight much like the stunning collaboration of the OnePlus Nord 2, PAC-MAN Edition, although I'd admit the 10T is the most likely option.
The two flavours of green and black tea likely refer to the colours of the upcoming device or was this all an elaborate trick to make me over analyse everything, after all, the box was yellow, does this signify Big Bird's involvement? okay maybe that's too far and I should lay off the tea for a bit.
I for one will be sipping my tea with bated breath waiting to see what this new device has in store and how I can get my grubby little paws on it.
