One-time vehicle tax settlement scheme extended

The State government has extended the one-time settlement scheme announced for owners of vehicles with tax arrears of four years or more, till March 31, 2023, Transport Minister Antony Raju has said. Under this scheme, vehicle tax arrears up to March 2018 was completely waived, while the tax arrears of transport vehicles and non-transport vehicles in the remaining period can be settled by paying 30% and 40%, respectively, till March 2022. This deadline has now been extended to one more year.

If the owner has no plans to reuse the vehicle, an affidavit can be filed to avoid future tax liabilities, said Mr. Raju. Owners of unused and sold vehicles should also make use of this opportunity, he added. The scheme was extended following complaints that many vehicle owners could not avail themselves of the benefits of the scheme in the wake of COVID-19 outbreak.
