One-time Rangers man Lassana Coulibaly scores Serie A stunner as Salernitana boost survival hopes

Remember Lassana Coulibaly?

Well the one-time Rangers man was making headlines in Serie A this weekend after scoring a simply stunning goal as he helped current club Salernitana to a big 3-0 win over Monza in Italy's top flight to give their survival hopes a major boost. His strike was the first of three goals for the home side who are now seven points clear of Verona in the final relegation place.

The former Light Blues midfielder - signed on a season-long loan from Angers by Steven Gerrard - received a pass inside the box on the angle and after taking a touch to set himself, he expertly curled his effort into the top corner of the net. It was just his second goal of the season for his current club. He's been a mainstay in the side with 22 appearances in the league to date.

The 26-year-old played 30 times during his spell at Rangers netting three goals and providing two further assists. Speaking after the victory over Monza, boss Paulo Sousa said: “We deservedly won against a very strong opponent. We were short and had good ball possession. We still have to improve a lot, but the attitude was decisive in achieving this victory.

"We must have a clear goal of salvation and from here to the end all matches are important to earn it as soon as possible.

“I dedicate this victory above all to the players, who have made themselves available since the first day I arrived. The whole team did well.

"The agreement on the frontline between Candreva and Kastanos was extraordinary. There is still a lot to do, but the team must maintain its attitude even in the most difficult moments”.
