One thing you should always bring to gigs that you probably don't know about

There are certain essentials when you're heading to a gig or festival, like your tickets, ID, and your phone, but there's one you might not know about.

One musician on TikTok has taken to the platform to inform people about the importance of wearing ear plugs at live music events. You can even buy ear plugs specifically for concerts which won't dampen the sound from the event.

Wearing ear plugs can be essential for protecting your hearing, and often the musicians on stage will be wearing ear plugs while they perform. Ear plugs can protect you from things like tinnitus and hearing loss.

In one video, @honeyrevengeca, a pop rock band based in LA, said: "They make ear plugs specifically for concerts guys, and they're not even that expensive. They even usually come with little attachments for your keys so you don't forget them.

"It's really really helpful... Please wear ear plugs to concerts. And listen, I know you think that it won't sound as good, but our ears are not built to withstand things of that loud a volume and that close to us.

"And if you're going to concerts as much as I do, you will lose your hearing without hearing protection. How are you going to enjoy the music years from now if you can't hear it.

"All that aside you can also get tinnitus and have a permanent ringing in your ears, which sounds awful. Even if you don't want fancy ones they sell them at the dollar store for, yes, a dollar [83p]. I promise that a two hour concert is not worth your ability to hear."

People in the comments rushed to confirm that ear plugs were essential to their gig kit. One said: "I finally got concert earplugs for the last show I went to and it actually sounded better. It filtered out all the crowd and muffled noises." and another said: "Audio tech here—if you can spend $15-30 on high fidelity reusable earplugs, the concert will actually sound better than it will without ear plugs."

Others offered warnings to others in the comments, as one said: "I’m 42 and have been going to concerts since the late 90’s. I’ve never worn earplugs and I have permanent hearing damage AND tinnitus. WEAR EARPLUGS." and another said: "I use loop earplugs!! I literally have hearing damage from the amount of shows I've been too."
