One simple change could cut your energy bill by £100 - according to expert

The cost of living is continuing to worsen across the country, mainly being driven up by rising energy bills.

Furthermore, energy bills are expected to soar within the next few months as the Energy Price Guarantee raises its cap by £500. Meanwhile, protection offered by the guarantee will become more targeted, so many billpayers will have to settle fo Ofgem's Price Cap which will increase in April.

However, Uswitch director of regulation Richard Nuedegg says Brits could save money on energy by making a few simple changes to their boiler. Boilers come equipped with either a dial or a digital screen with numbers on it which can help reduce the amount of gas you use, the Daily Star reports.

He told the Sun: "For combi boilers, the recommended output temperature for the radiators is 75oC and at least 60oC for water, which is the temperature that kills legionella bacteria. People with a condensing combi boiler may be able to turn down the flow temperature to save themselves some money on their energy bills."

Legionella bacteria spreads in standing water and becomes more dangerous at temperatures between 20 to 45 degrees. Because of this, it's vital that you keep your boiler's flow temperature high enough to avoid it.

Despite this, dropping your boiler temp to below 60 degrees could see your energy consumption reduce by nine per cent and save £100 per year in bills.
