Celtics star Jayson Tatum elevated his production to new heights in the 2022-23 season, averaging career highs in points (30.1), assists (4.6) and rebounds (8.8) per game.
Tatum’s growth over the years has been on full display as he’s improved each year in the league while becoming a four-time All-Star. However, the ’23 season for Tatum has elevated him to a new echelon of excellence.
With his impeccable stat line this season, Tatum became the first player in NBA history to improve his averages in points, assists and rebounds in each of his first six seasons in the league. Six players in league history have accomplished the feat in each of their first five NBA seasons, including Hall of Famers Scottie Pippen and Kevin Garnett.
However, none of those five players were able to increase their averages across the board in their sixth NBA season. The 25-year-old Tatum recently became the first Celtics player to average 30 or more points per game in a single season, surpassing Larry Bird’s 35-year-old franchise record of 29.9.
Tatum will seek to continue his all-around excellence in this year’s postseason as his elite play helped the Celtics (57-25) secure the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs and a matchup against the No. 7-seed Hawks in the first round of the playoffs.
