One person taken to hospital after A69 collision involving 'at least six vehicles' in Northumberland

One person has been taken to hospital following a crash involving "at least six vehicles".

The A69 between Haydon Bridge and Hexham in Northumberland was closed in both directions for almost three hours on Thursday evening. Emergency services, including police and paramedics, attended the scene.

National Highways described the incident, which occurred shortly after 5.30pm, as a "multiple vehicle collision involving at least six vehicles".

One person has been transported by ambulance to hospital for further treatment.

A North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on the A69 shortly after 5.30pm this evening.

"We dispatched one ambulance crew and transported one patient to hospital for further treatment."

The collision caused significant delays in the area and diversion routes were put in place for motorists. People were urged to allow extra journey time and plan ahead.

According to National Highways, the response to the incident was being led by Northumbria Police. The force was assisted at the scene by the emergency services.
