One person has died following a fire at a building used by Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB), state media has said.
The fire was reported in the southern city of Rostov-on-Don at a building which belongs to the FSB’s regional border patrol.
Although the fire has since been extinguished, a source told Russian state news agency TASS that two people had also been injured.
The region’s governor Vasily Golubev, said the fire was caused by a short circuit which then ignited fuel tanks.
Footage across social media should large plumes of black smoke spewing into the sky as the emergency services dealt with the blaze.
Mr Golubev said the fire had spread over 800 square metres and had caused two walls to collapse.
The FSB is Russia’s internal security service and is responsible for counterintelligence, border security and counter-terrorism.
Rostov-on-Don is a major city in southern Russia close to the border with Ukraine which has denied any involvement in the incident.
