A witness who did not want to be named said it "looked like paramedics were treating someone in their car" after it had "collided with the middle section of pedestrian crossing," while firefighters looked as if they were "preparing to cut someone free from their vehicle".

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Constabulary said: "Emergency services are in attendance following a collision involving two vehicles at the junction of Bond Street and Bond Street West, Bristol, which was reported this morning at 8.20am.

"Enquiries are ongoing at the scene.”

There was a collision at the same location just four months ago, after which two passengers were taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are urging that anyone who witnessed the collision today to call them on 101 quoting log 271 of February 20.
