There are plenty of homes on the market in Merseyside at the moment and some of them are available at auction.
While properties are selling for thousands of pounds over the asking price through estate agents, there are homes going under the hammer for a bargain price. Some of the cheapest properties in Merseyside are listed for sale at auction, with some given a starting price of £10,000 or less, but will probably require quite a bit of work.
One of the latest homes to go under the hammer is on New Street, in St Helens. On Wednesday, July 13, Taylor James Auctions will be hosting the sale of the mid-terraced house.

The two bedroom home benefits from off street parking, a front patio and back garden. It is in need of modernisation, however, and refurbishments will be needed to the kitchen, bathroom and living areas.
But this is reflected in the price, with a guide price of £10,000. The guide price is an indication of the seller's minimum expectation but the price can change any time prior to the auction, with a reserve figure also usually set.
According to Rightmove, properties in St Helens had an overall average price of £175,647 over the last year. Most of sales in St Helens during the last year were terraced properties, similar to this, selling for an average price of £112,808.
Whereas semi-detached properties sold for an average of £212,030 and detached properties fetched £281,531. Altogether, sold prices in St. Helens over the last year were 16% up on the previous year and 24% up on the 2019 peak of £141,493.
A video tour of the home shows the living room floor is made up of tiles and the walls are fitted with exposed wooden beams. This room leads into the kitchen which needs new worktops and appliances. Behind this room is a downstairs toilet. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms and access to a loft space from the landing.
Joel Faugh, auction manager at Taylor James Auctions, said: "There are many benefits to buying this property at auction, having been involved in the auction industry for nearly two decades I have always found the most attractive thing about purchasing at auction is the speed and certainty.
"I receive so many phone calls from buyers frustrated at purchases which have fallen apart on the open market after spending time and money trying to buy a property. At auction this doesn’t happen as if you are the highest bidder, you have bought a property with immediate exchange and completion within a month.
"There is no messing about or pulling out, which means you can have the peace of mind that you have successfully purchased a new property. With auctions now solely taking place online it is a lot easier as well for buyers to get involved and those who previously found the idea of bidding at auction quite daunting are now finding they can do it from the comfort of their home or office."
