Patrice Motsepe, head of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), who is also the brother-in-law of South Africa's President Cyril Ramaphosa, spoke exclusively to FRANCE 24 about whether he intends to run for president in his home country. "There are people who will do a much better job than I ever can", he replied when asked about a possible presidential bid. Motsepe also said that corruption was "one of the biggest problems in South Africa".
"I think one of the biggest problems in South Africa and in other parts of the world is corruption," Motsepe said, calling for "a prosecutorial and judicial system that has integrity". "When you take action against some of the big names (...) you send a message that indeed, nobody is above the law".
Motsepe, who is one of Africa's richest men, argued that "politically unpopular" measures need to be put forward, including by himself, in order to ensure a successful future for South Africa.
He also stressed the need to unite all South Africans, putting a special onus on helping the poor through education and jobs.
