Former Newcastle United number nine Mick Quinn says Bruno Guimaraes could be one of the best January transfers ever after the Brazilian’s dazzling display on Sunday.
The Brazil international Bruno Guimaraes arrived for big money in January from Lyon, with some pundits wondering whether the £33.5m signing would work out. After initially accepting a seat on the bench to avoid upsetting a winning side, he has now proven his worth and then some.
After a baffling goal in the 2-1 win over Southampton, he chalked up two more goals in today’s win over Leicester City. So much for those who said he was not a goalscorer.

Indeed, his goalscoring prowess has been enough to earn congratulations from one legendary Newcastle United number nine, in the form of Alan Shearer, earlier today. And now another legendary Newcastle number nine, Mick Quinn, has offered his thoughts.
Quinn, who was a goal machine for Newcastle in the late 1980s and early 1990s, tweeted after today’s match: “Top win for the Mighty Mags, hopefully it should be enough for next season and @brunoog97 is one of the best January Transfer Window buys ever. #HWTL See you Wednesday for the Palace Game."
Certainly becoming one of the best ever seems to be Bruno’s intention, who said after the game that he wants to become a legend. From his displays so far, it is certainly a possibility.
Newcastle’s next match is against Crystal Palace on Wednesday. It will be at St James’ Park again, with Newcastle looking to keep their home form going.
