Doctor's Orders

Doctors Orders is a micropub located in a former pharmacy with a huge choice of local - and some from further afield - drinks. The dog-friendly bar is a great place to start your pub crawl as it offers a fun and laid-back atmosphere with some unusual choices of cider, real ale or beer. The extensive collection also includes some gluten-free options for anyone with potential allergies or dietary restrictions.

Pull up a seat outside on the small tables and benches while you watch the world go past. Alternatively, if you fancy a bit of entertainment, why not check out the full collection of board games on offer?

Brigitte Bordeaux

The Brigitte Bordeaux is worth a stop on the trail for the name alone, although it really is one of the nicest places to have a drink in Sherwood. The quirky little wine bar is also a shop where you can pick up a nice bottle or two to take away with you.

The bar also offers tasting evenings which can be great fun but they do need to be booked in advance. Tastings usually include light food - usually cheese and charcuterie or veggie/vegan antipasti. The staff know their stuff here so you can find great advice on what wine to choose or even, the best bottle bargains.

The Gladstone

This requires making a bit of a detour from Mansfield road and into a quieter area of Sherwood which at first glance may seem more residential. The Gladstone pub is a hidden gem off the beaten track on Loscoe road and its become known as a local favourite.

Expect a warm welcome and a cosy atmosphere at this local boozer complete with darts, pub quizzes and the occasional beer festival.

Crafty Teller

If you amble back out onto Mansfield Road then the next stop should be The Crafty Teller. The relaxed trendy bar comes at a crucial time on the pub crawl as it offers an excellent range of burgers that provide perfect soakage while you make your way up the street.

Even if you aren't in the mood for a big burger then the pub offers lighter bites of tapas for anyone interested. The pub also often holds two for one on different cocktails and the occasional burger too but you need to check the day. It's worth noting that the espresso martinis are dangerously moreish in this venue and the staff know their stuff when it comes to a well-mixed drink.

Robin Hood

The Robin Hood is one of the friendliest pubs on the trail with an excellent outdoor seating area. It might be heading towards the winter months when an outdoor area may not be a necessity but it's worth popping the head out to have a look. It's beautifully decorated by local artists which makes it a great spot to know about during the summer months.

The pub often holds different events throughout the week including slam poetry rights, fundraisers and bands. In fact, this is a hard one to have on a pub crawl as it's very difficult to leave to go to another location once you get settled here. There are occasional street food pop-ups from time to time providing a much-needed post-pub crawl pick-me-up.

Kraft werks

Across the road from The Robin Hood is Kraft werks bottle shop and pub. This is one for the beer drinkers in particular as the pub stocks more than 250 specialist craft beers from around the world. If you get stuck on what to order, staff know their German lagers from their New England IPAs.

If you like what you find at Kraft werks, there are some to take away as the pub is also a bottle shop. If you fancy a bit of Sherwood in your own home then you can order online for delivery or collection.

The Pillar Box

The Pillar Box is a really great place to end your pub crawl of Sherwood in based thanks to its incredible selection of gin. The beautifully decorated bar has a contemporary and laid-back feel to it which instantly makes you feel at home.

It feels like there isn't a gin on the market that isn't on offer at this venue so you can have the time of your life sampling the most unusual ones you can find. Staff are great for a recommendation here too so do ask if you feel a bit overwhelmed. If you time your crawl carefully then take advantage of the happy hour where drinks are £5.50. Be warned, the cocktails are hard to resist in this place so you may end up making a night of it.
