One of the busiest roads in Merseyside is being closed overnight so work can be carried out.
The East Lancashire Road connects Liverpool with Salford, and sees tens of thousands of journeys each day. Major disruption is expected on the route this week, as the road will be closed near St Helens.
St Helens Council is to carry out major resurfacing work on the East Lancs, between Green Leach Lane and Liverpool Road. Works will also take place on the A571 Carr Mill Road, from Moss Bank Road to the East Lancs.

People living nearby have been given notification of the roadworks, which are scheduled to start on Tuesday, March 28, and last from 7pm to 6am. Residents have been informed works on the East Lancs will take place at night when there is less traffic for safety reasons.
This means that during the busy evening hours, when many are making their journey home from work- they will not be able to use the East Lancs. Diversion routes will be in place during the works, which will likely send traffic down through St Helens, creating heavier traffic around the town centre in the evening.
