One of Emersons Green's only charity shops to close this week

A neighbourhood just off the Bristol ring road is set to lose one of its last remaining charity shops this week. Shoppers of Sue Ryder's Emersons Green branch have shared their sadness at the news of the permanent closure this Saturday (June 10).

Making the announcement on social media, the charity shop said: "We regret to have to inform all our lovely customers and followers that our shop will close permanently on Saturday, June 10. We look forward to your visit in our last week of trading. We are only able to take small donations from 9.30am."

Karen Rogers, Regional Manager for Sue Ryder Emersons Green, said: "The Sue Ryder shop in Emersons Green will be closing due to our lease ending with the final day of trading being Saturday, June 10. We are currently not looking for other premises in the local area and the nearest shops are now located in Kingswood and Fishponds.

"We would like to extend our thanks to all of our staff, volunteers and customers for all their support over the years. You have helped Sue Ryder to continue to be able to support people through our palliative care and bereavement services."

The closure has received an outpour of support from regular shoppers who thanked its staff for their work over the years. On Facebook, Penny West said: "It’s one of the few decent shops in Emersons Green. Thanks to all the staff."

Maxine Peters added: "That is so sad a lovely shop and for a good cause a lot of people will miss popping in I know I will."

Donna Compton commented: "Such a shame. I remember helping to open the Store. Wishing you all the very best!"

Sue Ryder is a charity that provides palliative, neurological and bereavement support across the UK. It has over 400 charity shops nationwide selling donated items, with soon-to-be five branches in the Bristol area - including in Bedminster and Fishponds.
