One injured in bomb attack in Kerala capital

One person was critically injured after a motorcycle-borne gang hurled country bombs at a group near Kazhakuttom on Thursday.

According to the Kazhakuttom police, the incident occurred near the KINFRA International Apparel Park in Menamkulam around 7.15 p.m. when the victim, Rajan Cleetus (34) of Thumba, was with his friends Siju and Sunil.

The gang that was allegedly led by a history-sheeter, identified as Leon Johnson, rode towards the group and hurled two bombs at them. The second bomb fell close to Rajan and blew his right leg into smithereens. He was soon rushed to the Government Medical College Hospital. The incident was witnessed by some people in the area.

Rajan, who has been working in West Asia, came to his native place few weeks ago. While claims that the gang had targeted Sunil are rife, the police were yet to ascertain the angle. Leon is suspected to have led a drug racket in the locality, the police said.
