One Hunter suburb will see posties deliver mail on electric motorbikes

EDGEWORTH residents can expect the mail to be delivered on an electric motorbike as Australia Post rolls its new fleet out across 46 locations.

Australia Post has launched 175 state-of-the-art electric motorbikes across the country, and in NSW, Edgeworth is one of the initial eight suburbs to take part.

The motorbikes are capable of reaching speeds of up to 80 km/h and are hoped to tackle routes that were previously challenging for three-wheel electric delivery vehicles to access.

Australia Post chief executive and managing director Paul Graham said it is a pivotal moment and demonstrates the company's commitment to sustainability and forward-thinking technology.

"This new fleet allows us to electrify a broader spectrum of routes, reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and further advancing our sustainability goals," he said.

"We are proud to integrate cutting-edge solutions that benefit our team members, our customers and the environment.

"This new fleet of electric motorbikes demonstrates how environmental benefits can be achieved while improving safety for our people and maintaining exceptional customer service."

Locations were chosen to provide information about how the vehicles perform across different environments day to day.

The bikes are manufactured by UBCO Electric Utility Bikes and are the first to join the Australia Post fleet.

The electric motorbikes feature LED lighting systems and reflective red side panels for better visibility, a low centre of gravity for stability and an electric drive system for improved traction and control.

Customers can expect to see the new fleet out and about delivering for the community from next month.
