Tragedy struck at Maplewood Park in Rochester, New York, on Sunday evening as a mass shooting unfolded, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries. The incident occurred around 6:20 p.m. when Rochester police responded to reports of shots fired at a large gathering in the park.
Upon arrival, authorities discovered several individuals with gunshot wounds. Regrettably, an adult in their 20s succumbed to their injuries, while another victim sustained life-threatening wounds. Additionally, five individuals were hospitalized with minor injuries, according to Capt. Greg Bello.
The deceased victim's identity has not been disclosed pending family notification. Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Irondequoit Police, Monroe County Sheriff's Office, Rochester Police, and New York State Police, swiftly mobilized to the scene.
While confirming the presence of a party in the vicinity during the shooting, Capt. Bello emphasized the ongoing investigation to ascertain the number of shooters involved. As of now, no suspects have been apprehended, and authorities are urging anyone with video footage or information to come forward.
